Work with me
I work with universities, programs and teaching teams that are rethinking how they teach and assess data science now that students have capable AI assistants. My work combines a background in the learning sciences, where my doctoral research focused on computer-supported collaborative learning and knowledge building, with years of building and teaching data science courses.
What I can help with
Assessment redesign. I help instructors and programs design assessments that still show what students understand when AI can write the code, drawing on the Demonstrations of Understanding framework I use in my own courses.
Data science curriculum design. I help map what a course or program is trying to teach, including competencies, prerequisites and threshold concepts, and sequence it so that students build on what they already know.
AI-assisted grading and feedback. I advise on using language models to support grading and feedback at scale while keeping judgement with the instructor.
Workshops and talks. I offer workshops for faculty and teaching assistants on assessment and on teaching with and around AI, and talks on the same themes for academic and professional audiences.
